I am an avid animal lover. I have a lab/mastiff mix who I adopted while I was fostering him. We call that a “foster failure,” but he has made me so happy. I habitually volunteered at the local dog shelter and helped out with an Athens, Ohio rescue group, Friends of Shelter Dogs throughout college. I also did a public relations internship with The Humane Society of the United States during the summer of 2010, which was a great way to mix business with passion. Animals have always been present in my life and they have taught me to learn to help those who can’t help themselves.
Over the years I have become increasingly interested in food production. I have been a vegetarian for over nine years now but have lost sight of what urged me to make that decision in the first place. Food production interests me for many reasons: the politics of it, the environmental aspect, my concern for animal welfare, and it doesn’t hurt that I simply really enjoy good food.
